(2005: In memory of Wendy Bishop who generously shared her work with me )

The text in this piece is excerpted from Wendy Bishop's found poem, "V-Mail" (American Poetry Review 17.5 (1988): 7-8). She had generously allowed me to help myself to this work commenting that, after all, the words were "only found anyway." The poem is a kind of cataloguing of desires and expectations taken from the correspondence Bishop's father sent to her mother during the time he was stationed overseas in the 1940s.

In Exile, text runs vertically and horizontally across a map which I have altered by removing language, reworking physical features, and by fragmenting. The viewer enters this landscape, traversing and literally framing this location.
